Size doesn’t matter….Depravity does!

Why, in heaven’s name, would anyone want to watch a trashy movie about a perverted midget who keeps heroine-addicted girls imprisoned in his attic? Well personally, I had TWO damn good reasons to track this sick movie down! First of all because it’s generally known as a unique and ultra-rare exploitation gem, or more particularly, “the reigning king of dwarfsploitation cinema”, like my fellow reviewer teptime put it so poetically! Secondly, I have a bizarre phobia of “little people” and every film featuring dwarfs, whether horror or another genre, simply scares the hell out of me. So, if I ever need a reason to justify why I watch sick stuff like this, I’ll just claim it was part of my therapy! Hence, despite that the screenplay doesn’t really focus on tension or atmosphere, I found this movie to be rather unsettling at times. Olaf, portrayed by the Danish actor Torben Bille, certainly isn’t the most freaky-looking dwarf in horror cinema history (his face strangely resemblances that of comedian Jack Black, actually), but he has quite an evil laugh and his dedication towards noisy children’s toys truly sent cold shivers down my spine. Olaf lives together with his mother and runs a boarding house. As a slightly more profitable profession, they also have an attic full of attractive young girls that serve as prostitutes for a selected group of customers. Olaf keeps the girls calm and willing by injecting heroine up their veins and offering them toys. Their business becomes endangered when a young couple moves into the house and questions the strange sounds coming from the attic. “The Sinful Dwarf” is an extremely sleazy motion picture, with raw female full frontal nudity in nearly every sequence and a gigantic amount of rapes, beatings and vile torture. Other than that, there’s very little to see here and the pace is too frequently undercut by overlong and dire scenes of Olaf’s mother and some other granny thinking back about their glorious days as cabaret singers. How this is relevant in any possible way, don’t even ask… The young couple, especially the girl, are surprisingly likable characters and their acting skills aren’t even that bad. The picture quality is very poor and the sound regularly fell out, but hey, the immeasurable cult-value makes up for pretty much everything. “The Sinful Dwarf” is an absolute must for collectors, sick puppies and – not to forget – other people with a inexplicable fear for little persons.

Olaf (Torben Bille) is a dwarf with a cane who forces young girls into prostitution with the aid of his mother (Clara Keller). She runs a boarding house and keeps the naked girls locked up and drugged in the attic. Men come and frequent the girls. Peter (Tony Eades) and his wife Mary (Anne Sparrow) rent a room in said establishment. Mary becomes a bit nosy about sounds that she hears. Not too complex of a plot.

This is a film for those who couldn’t get enough of “Blood Sucking Freaks.” Plenty of full frontal nudity. The DVD has a good audio and video transfer.

Sex, rape, and nudity (Anne Sparrow, Clara Keller, Jeanette Marsden, Lisbeth Olsen, Jane Cutter)

A deliciously slimy and sordid piece of pure 70’s exploitation swill

Depraved, sadistic dwarf Olaf (a genuinely creepy and unnerving portrayal by Torben Bille) and his boozy, overbearing mother Lila Lash (a perfectly wicked performance by Clara Keller) abduct lovely young ladies, hook them on heroin, imprison the gals in the dungeon-like attic of their shabby boardinghouse, and force the hapless lasses to work as prostitutes. When newlyweds Peter (drippy Tony Eades) and Mary (fetching, buxom blonde babe Anne Sparrow) rent a room in the ratty abode, Olaf naturally can’t wait to get his naughty little hands on Mary. Director Vidal Raski, working from an extremely sick and mean-spirited script by William Mayo, really delivers the lowdown harsh and raunchy goods in a commendably stark, graphic, and unflinching manner: we’ve got plentiful full-frontal female nudity, voyeurism, incredibly explicit steamy and strenuous sex scenes, a raw, seamy and uncompromisingly twisted scuzzball atmosphere, flagellation, beaten-down women strung out on smack, severe sexual deviance and repression, and Olaf using a cane on poor Mary in a positively vile and unspeakable way. There’s a pervasively grimy, seedy, and downright nasty sense of all-out decadence and perversity evident throughout that in turn gives this picture an extra foul and unsettling skin-crawling repellent edge. With his broad, leering grin, annoying throaty chortle, and uncanny resemblance to a diminutive degenerate Jack Black, Bille’s Olaf makes for a truly scary and repulsive tiny freak of a main villain. Lasse Bjorne’s rough, no-frills cinematography gives the movie an appropriately gritty look. Ole Orsted’s neatly varied score alternates between droning dissonance and groovy-jammin’ psychedelic prog-rock. A few from out in left field cabaret musical numbers further enhance this flick’s overall oddball allure. Essential viewing for devout aficionados of unapologetically kinky and disgusting celluloid filth.

The sequel no one asked for

Well maybe some did. And I guess the first one was succesful enough for them to get a higher budget for this one. Which lead to getting Debbie Rochon to be the star name (as opposed to John Dugan from the first one). Minute wise she might be in this a bit longer than John was, but I could be wrong. Time loses its meaning when watching something as horrible as this.

And this is not meant as a compliment necessarily. Though through the bigger budget I’d argue it is slightly “better” than the first one. Still as much rape, blood, guts and mayhem as the other one. Story wise this continues the story of the first one. “Acting” wise it may in some cases be able to better the first one, but it was almost impossible to go lower … then again, you never know until you know now do you? Anyway, not recommendable at all imho

Absolutely awful

If me and my girlfriend decided to make a movie, having no experience or talent in the field and for equipment we used my old cell phone from the late 90s, employed our relatives to act in it and elected not to use any lighting or sound engineer i reckon the result would look something like this pile of dross. The editing in this film is so laughable i had to check to see if i wasn’t being spoofed somehow. How could anybody with any sense of pride in ones work watch the final product and then think “ok that’s a wrap, let’s release it” – i would be mortified to let this out into the World. Really, film fans, do yourselves a favour and go and wash the dog or mow the lawn or paint a fence because i guarantee you will wish you had done something more satisfying with the time wasted watching this. 1 out of 10.

Don’t do it. Just don’t.

Every now and then I really feel like kicking myself for some of the awful crap I will sit through from beginning to end and this is certainly one of those times. I never watched the first movie, as I'd been warned away from it vehemently by another movie buff. I thought, however, as a second film had been made, perhaps the budget would be larger and the cast and crew may have learned a few things further down the line production-wise. Boy, was I wrong. At least, I can't think the first one could be any worse than this film. I literally paused it firstly to take out the bins and then to wash the dishes to break up the monotony of it all.

What a wreck. There is nothing redeemable about this movie and I watched this one right after Sharkansas Women's Prison Massacre. That was also terrible, but a masterpiece by comparison. After fifteen minutes of The Hospital 2, I thought maybe a beer would make it better. Then it was a couple of gin and tonics. Surely that would help, right? Nope. No amount of self-medication could put a band-aid on this injury. There is no cure for this ailment, only a vaccine. The vaccine is avoiding this movie at all costs and to pray to any merciful deity that will listen to strike down anybody, anywhere, who so much as mentions making The Hospital 3.

Soap Opera Done Dirty Movie Style

This was one of the adult blockbusters of 1985 when the Golden Age was drawing to a close. It was the directorial debut of Thomas Paine, who’d been working on the mainstream side of the movie industry and remains active in the adult part of it to this very day, and presented one of the best possible combinations of plot and porn ever concocted. The always underrated Tish Ambrose delivers a career performance as Jill, mother hen to a handful of call girls used (and that is the right word for it) by wicked Robert Bolla for corporate blackmail schemes. The other girls are fan favorites all, ranging from an unusually sweet and sensuous Amber Lynn to the elegantly debauched Rachel Ashley, hot off her triumph on Edwin Durell’s EVERY WOMAN HAS A FANTASY. Most memorable though is the multi-award-winning Sheri St. Claire (Bob Bullock’s object of obsession in Chuck Vincent’s VOYEUR) as new kid Babette who soon learns the ins and outs of Bolla’s set-up the hard way. Though the story’s involving, it may disconcert some viewers that there is occasional violence to be found, sometimes in conjunction with the sex. Nowadays the adult industry tends to avoid such mixture for legal reasons and I understand that the current video version omits some of the nastier stuff that befalls St. Claire’s character even though I always felt that none of it was gratuitous and indeed essential to understand that character’s evolution. Ah well… This should in no way discourage you from seeking out this beautifully made, very well-acted adult classic, a tribute to days gone by when the ‘adult’ tag meant more than just explicit sexual content.

Excellent porn drama

Sadistic businessman J.W. Sheeves (a spot-on slimy portrayal by Robert Kerman) runs a prostitution racket that he uses as a means for corporate blackmail. Complications ensue when mother hen hooker Jill (winningly played with sweet charm by fetching blonde Tish Ambrose) decides to leave Sheeves after falling in love with traumatized Vietnam war veteran Winston Fields (a fine and sensitive performance by Eric Edwards).

Writer/director Thomas Paine brings a surprising amount of potent dramatic substance to the meaty story, astutely captures the misery and loneliness of prostitution, keeps the intricate and engrossing narrative moving along at a steady pace, and delivers an exciting rescue set piece at the thrilling climax. This film further benefits from an ace cast of Golden Age porn favorites: Rachel Ashley as the ruthless Morgana, Amber Lynn as the conscience-stricken Tanya, Sheri St. Claire as naive and vulnerable rookie Babette, Herschel Savage as brutish henchman Louis, Harry Reems as the stressed-out and overworked Bill, and Jamie Gillis as sleazy creep Dan (who likes to play baby). The sex scenes are quite arousing and energetic. Tom Denucci’s glossy cinematography provides a pleasing polished look. The neatly varied score alternates between elegant piano and pulsating synth. Highly recommended for fans of vintage 80’s hardcore fare.

Score Storyline

A happily married bisexual swinging couple, Jack and Elvira who spend their days lounging around the villa making bets and having sex. One weekend, they turn their sights on a couple of naive newlyweds, Betsy and Eddie and bet on whether or not they can seduce the two. Their small get together at their luxury Riviera villa turns into a night of secrets, seduction, and sexual discovery like no other. Elvira and Jack depict bisexuality perfectly as a swingers couple, having sex with each other as well as members of the same sex. When it comes to our naive newlyweds, Eddie is clearly a closeted homosexual and Betsy undoubtedly wants to be more than friends with Elvira while still maintaining an interest for the men in her life. Jack and Elvira allow these young partners to achieve a sexual liberation – regardless of sexuality.

Very interesting

A swinging couple (Claudia Wilbur and Gerald Grant) seduces a straight-laced couple (Lynn Lowry and Casey Donovan). That’s about it for plot, but the movie is fascinating. It was made long before AIDS (and, ironically, two of the actors later died of the disease) so there are no boundaries on what the couples will do and there’s no moralizing on what is right or wrong. That’s the great thing about the movie-it doesn’t judge. I saw this years ago at a film festival and was just astonished. It’s hard to explain WHY I liked it but I did. It dealt with sex roles, male and female sexuality, bisexuality in an uninhibited and fun way.

As for the sex…there’s not much. I saw an uncut version and while somewhat explicit, it’s tasteful. There’s a man/woman coupling, and two long lesbian and gay sex scenes. In fact when this came out in 1973 it was a bomb. It was X but it wasn’t explicit enough for the porno crowd or intelligent enough for the “intellectual” audience. Now it’s being realized for how good it is.

It’s beautifully shot in Yugoslavia, has great dialogue and all the acting is good. Also the cast is attractive and look great with their clothes off. It’s available uncut on DVD (previous versions were edited) and well worth getting.

This movie scores

“The Score” is an amazing movie. I was expecting a pretty good saucy movie, but it easily breaks out of that envelope. It’s the first Radley Metzger film I saw, but just from this single one I’d rate him as one of the great movie makers, and if the rest of his work is au pair, I’d say he is a genius. The dialogues are brilliant, and the same goes for the actors. They were all unknown to me but quality-wise they’re A-list all the way, and can really show off their prowess on a very difficult subject matter. The women are very foxy too (I can’t really judge the men in that department).

I’m saying all this even though I didn’t really like the subject of the movie. I’m not gay or bi, and I don’t find the whole swinging philosophy all that attractive, and the movie is really all about swinging and gay sex. But it’s a great movie not despite but because of that, because it took me somewhere else. I would have expected a pornographer like Metzger to have thrown in more explicit scenes, which would certainly have pleased the audience, but he wanted to entertain us by telling a far-out story, in the land of leisure, bordering on insanity in the West and decadence in the East …

This movie really surprised me and made me sit up open-mouthed. That’s why I’m awarding it a solid ten points.

On a sad sidenote, Calvin Culver / Casey Donovan, who played the husband of the younger couple, died young, in 1987 from AIDS.

The Blu-ray disc I watched was a restored copy of a film with the year 1976, apparently an edited version. Jack (Gerald Grant) and Elvira (Claire Wilbur) are swingers. She is bored by being able to easily score due to the Al Goldstein publication which lets them advertise. Elvira has been attempting to score with Betsy (Lynn Lowry) and Eddie (Casey Donovan). She likes the chase.

The couple swap didn’t go as I would have liked as same sex couples paired up. The monologue comes across as a Creative Writing 101 project. I was not overly impressed, and in fact it brought a chuckle as I had to laugh at what passed for clever in 1970 something.

The Vixens of Kung Fu (A Tale of Yin Yang) Storyline

Paula is a young prostitute whose luck turns sour one day while taking a stroll through a wood in the middle of the afternoon. She’s interrupted by three Hunters who verbally harass her and, when she starts running away, one of them pulls a Gun of Anesthesia (sic) on her and shoots her in the back. She falls to the ground, they «skin» their prey and the first two hunters rape her. They then leave her all alone. Paula regains consciousness and – as if she was in a rape and revenge movie – she wanders into the comforting arms – and body – of the Leader of Vixens Of Kung-Fu, who initiates her by giving her a massage and having lesbian sex with her. Then Paula is introduced to the other two vixen kung-fu students, who have no use for men, and keep training and learning the ways of the Vixens. Paula finds time to relate how much she needs help, to pay back the pains she had to endure from past clients (in flashbacks): a Black Client with whom she didn’t have sex, and a White Client. Then, a wandering kung-fu practitioner makes the mistake of wandering past the Vixens’ training grounds. He’s immediately attacked and beaten by the three kung fu students. Scorned by the Vixens, the man does what any male hero does in similar circumstances: he parts in search of a woman of knowledge who will help him «bone up» on his kung-fu skills. He finds her in the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant. He kneels at the feet of Madame Blue, addresses her as the Kung Fu Master. She reluctantly takes him on as a student, takes him into the woods, where she instructs him in the deadly art of her particular style – Golden Dragon Raising Head – which primarily involves meditation and masturbation, until he becomes an invincible Yang. Meanwhile, the Vixens’ Leader and Paula are running up and down the beach together (in slow motion), so that she will have all the endurance a Yin needs for a long battle of the sexes. After the two masters are satisfied that their respective students have had enough training, the final duel is arranged in another scenic wood background – and Yang and Yin do come together in climactic nude combat.

Everybody was kung-fu fornicating!

Without a doubt one of the single most uproariously silly porno oddities to emerge from the loopy 70’s, this one merges your standard sexathon with the then trendy martial arts craze with positively ridiculous and hence quite sidesplitting results. A young prostitute (gorgeous brunette Bree Anthony) gets raped in the woods by a group of scuzzy guys who include a giggly Bobby Astyr and the ever-sleazy Jamie Gillis. Fortunately, the hooker gets taken in by a secret sect of beautiful distaff kung-fu masters who teach her all about the erotic side of the martial arts (i.e., these ladies meditate buck naked until smoke comes out of their vaginas and make out with each other a lot). Director Bill Milling pokes hysterical fun at the glaring shoddiness of low-rent chopsocky fare: Hilariously obvious dubbing, cheesy protracted slow motion, hokey narration done by some dude with a phony and unconvincing Chinese accent, tacky freeze frames, wonky editing for the fight scenes, jarring use of music (Anthony gets raped to jaunty hillbilly bluegrass music!), and even the unavoidable arduous training montages. The smoldering presence of the always delicious C.J. Laing as the martial arts teacher provides plenty of heat. The bright cinematography gives this flick an attractive sunny look. A total hoot and a half.

Baby Rosemary Storyline

Awful

I may not be qualified to review this title, as I only made it through the first ten minutes. Yet in that time, I saw the heroine being humiliated by a man who supposedly cared for her and then raped at knifepoint.

Granted, I didn’t go in expecting The Color Purple. Yet I was expecting an intelligent adult film, not a horror movie. And while I’m definitely not a censorship maven (indeed, I work for an adult magazine), I really wish that filmmakers would stop confusing rape with sex.

No offense to Candida Royalle and John Leslie, both of whom I adore. I’m just glad they’ve bone gone on to bigger (and better) things. This movie, for its part, needs to go in the trash.

A Great! Porn Movie

I think it was an excellent movie for the time that was made and the characters have some depth,I don’t know why some of the reviews on this movie were so harsh, I think the main female character has love and trust issues because of having been abandoned by here father,so she will not connect with her boy friend,but it is easy for her to connect with someone who doesn’t love her,and her boy friend loves her so much, even after he is rejected by her through the years ,that he uses a lady of the evening as a substitute for her.And I will admit I did not understand the ending,but this movie is what a porn movies should be,good acting,and a storyline and sex.

Perhaps The Best Porn Film Of All Time!

This movie is slightly haunting and very nostalgic. Director Harold Perkins takes you into the life of a sexually suppressed young woman played by Sharon Thorpe. This may be a shocker to hear me say, but Sharon looks absolutely beautiful in this one! Her character is sweet and very innocent. I remember Sharon doing at least five scenes including being the object of desire in the midst of a giant orgy– ending with all the male actors getting off in her face. Her look of disgust is award winning! John Leslie does a scene with Leslie Bovee, and I remember a lesbian 3-way featuring Candida Royale. She in later years went on to direct videos for couples! I Don’t even know if this film is available on DVD. If so it would have been edited for time, inasmuch as all the old essex releases have been re-cut. But I do remember making a beta (video cassette) copy in 1985 and watching it over 50 times! If indeed it is available on disc, I certainly would not recommend viewing it. “Small Town Girls” was a lesson to me about how the 80’s films have deteriorated. I would not be able to handle viewing this one in that way. Try to find it on an old beta or VHS rental to see this masterpiece as it was intended to be!

Movie v Porn

Not the best of movies but, by no means, the worst. Georgina Spelvin was the stand out star, naturally. I suspect it was specifically written for her. While the overall movie was rather explict, it did not take away from the movie ideal, soldiers and sailors taking advantage of shore leave during WWII, even though it used explict sex as it’s modem. As if it never happened….. The nearest neighbour I can think of is Caligula, which featured established stars, (Peter O’Toole, Malcom McDowell, Sir John Gielgud) and an up and coming star (Dame Helen Mirrin). If one is to take like with like, Tropic of Desire deserves to be accepted at least, as a main stream B movie, seeing as Caligula received critical acclaim. Had Georgina Spelvin got the breaks she deserved (having appeared in main stream movies such as Sweet Charity, Hello Dolly and Police Acadamy), and had better scripts and direction, I believe she could have been at the top of the B list of actors and maybe even broken into the A list. It is definitely not for all, especially those who cannot stand men and women being men and women however; if one approaches the movie with open eyes, one will not be disappointed. I enjoyed the background music, which was of the period. I especially enjoyed hearing Otchi-Tchor-Ni-Ya by Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, which also featured in The Glenn Miller Story. In this movie it was an instrumental, which made it more poignant. This movie is not for all but, it was definitely for me, and open minded viewers.

One of Bob Chinn’s crowning achievements in adult cinema

1945. Madam Frances (the legendary Georgina Spelvin in fine form) runs The Pink Flamingo, a brothel in Hawaii that specializes in servicing sailors on leave during the last days of World War II. Director Bob Chinn does a spot-on sterling job with his flavorsome evocation of the 1940’s period setting (the sets and costumes in particular are fairly lavish and impressive). The excellent use of vintage swing jazz songs rates as another major asset. Moreover, the sex scenes are quite hot and explicit, plus there are a few surprisingly touching moments to be found amidst all the carnal activity. This movie further benefits from a bevy of beautiful women: Jessie St. James as the sympathetic Donna, Starr Wood as foxy slender brunette Terri, Kitty Shayne as the forlorn Rita, Dorothy Le May as sweet and eager new girl June, Mandy Ashley as brash Texas gal Gloria, and Susan Nero as the snippy Mona. The actors portraying the sailors are good and credible, with especially praiseworthy contributions from Jon Martin as smooth dude Jack, Ken Scudder as smitten dope Gus, and Blair Harris as shy and awkward virgin Phil. Ken Gibb’s sumptuous cinematography provides a pleasing lush look. Essential viewing for fans of 70’s Golden Age hardcore fare.

PURE SCUM (and I loved it)

I love Mondo Macabro. They put out amazing releases and clean up neglected foreign films, making things a million times better than they have any right to. Just this year they’ve released a slew of films that have never even been put out on DVD in our country. They’re one of my favorite labels.

However, they nearly got me in trouble by sending me a review copy of this film. With no warning, my wife opened it and instantly called and asked why I bought it. Thanks – I hate looking a gift horse in the mouth (and this movie does way more than look when it comes to horses).

Oh yeah – this entire review is NSFW. You’ve been warned.

This is the second in this series of movies to be directed by Joe D’Amoto. Whatever name he uses, you know exactly the kind of insanity that that name means.

Emanuelle – notice the missing M to denote that this has just enough legally not to do with the French film that starred Sylvia Kistel but just enough to make you think that it may – is a photojournalist out to get a great story no matter what. No matter what often means that she’s getting naked and in trouble, starting with an angry virginal boyfriend of a model that wants her dead.

She’s played by Laura Gemser, who has also used the name Moira Chen, and if you’ve seen a Bruno Mattei or D’Amoto film, you know exactly who she is. I’d recommend her star turn as a psychic who gets menaced by mutant fishmen in Endgame myself.

Here, she’s on the trail of playboy Eric Van Darren, who is enslaving women and creating a harem. She also hooks up with Italian duke Alfredo Elvize (Gemser’s real-life husband Gabriele Tinti who is in Enter the Devil if you’d like to descend further down the funnel of Italian scum) and his wife (Paola Senatore, Eaten Alive!).

You may be like – hey, this seems like the typical Cinemax After Dark film, albeit with much better production values and one hell of a musical score. That’d be correct until Emanuelle ends up going to an island where every fantasy can become reality. Hold the Ricardo Montalban!

That’s when she discovers that some of the folks there like making love while watching films of young women dying. Yep – snuff films!

Emanuelle is disgusted and quits her job to go on a long vacation with her boyfriend. Of course, she’s soon come back for Emanuelle Around the World, where she meets a guru who promises the ultimate orgasm. And that guru is, of course, played by George Eastman. Ivan Rassimov also shows up, and if you suddenly started searching for this film, you get why I spend so much time writing about movies on this site.

After that, D’Amoto and Gemser would team up for perhaps an even more insane tale than this one, Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals, and one other Black Emanuelle film, 1978’s Emanuelle and the White Slave Trade.

If you saw the version of this that played on Cinemax or Showtime in the 1980’s, you didn’t get the full uncut madness that appears on this blu ray. Honestly, outside of degenerates, I have no idea who is ready for such madness.

You can get this directly from Mondo Macabro. The colors are gorgeous, the music sounds better than ever and the extras, like a documentary entitled D’Amato Totally Uncut: The Erotic Experience, brand new audio commentary by Eurotrash aficionados Bruce Holecheck and Nathaniel Thompson and a brand new interview with author David Flint, are worth just as much as the movie.

But man – you guys gotta warn me when you send me this kinda stuff. Still, much appreciated.

An exercise in bad taste

EMANUELLE IN America is a notorious entry in Joe D’Amato’s long-running ‘Black Emanuelle’ series, starring Laura Gemser. This one infuses the usual ’70s-era softcore fumblings with some real nastiness and grit, making it an exercise in bad taste. But then you’d expect little different from the director who brought us ANTHROPOPHAGUS THE BEAST.

The story goes that Emanuelle is now working as a reporter, taking on undercover assignments around the world. What this is an excuse for is a series of lengthy, pointless, and not particularly erotic sex and nude scenes, nearly all of them involving Gemser. The ’70s-era fashions and the snazzy music make them amusing, but I’m not a big fan of sexploitation films so your mileage might vary.

Where the film becomes notorious is in its uncut form. As well as featuring hardcore inserts, Gemser witnesses bestiality and a snuff film seemingly inspired by the ILSA franchise. As I watched the BBFC approved version of the film, most of that stuff was expunged, although I can’t say I’m particularly bothered by that. EMANUELLE IN America is still a cheesy, below-par slice of Italian sexploitation, extra footage or otherwise.

Not the ‘ultimate exploitation experience’ that I had hoped for.

Extreme depravity, hardcore sex, and ultra violence: I’d heard that this sleazy offering from Italian trash-movie king Joe D’Amato (Aristide Massaccesi) was the epitome of exploitation, so I borrowed a copy from a friend and settled down to enjoy a prime slice of deviancy. Unfortunately, this supposedly spicy dollop of D’Amato sauce actually turned out to be rather bland.

Laura Gemser plays Emanuelle, an investigative reporter determined to get her scoop, whatever the risk. Using her womanly wiles, she digs up the dirt on an organised-crime boss and his harem, some lust-crazed Venetian aristocrats, and a sex club for lonely women where our horny heroine eventually stumbles on the story of the century when she discovers a couple enjoying a genuine snuff movie.

The first half of the movie is rather dull, packed with plentiful female nudity but hardly any of the ‘rough stuff’ that I had read so much about; only a brief scene involving a happy horse named Pedro is worthy of note.

Eventually D’Amato hits his stride and, during an orgy scene, he delivers the first of many hardcore moments; from here on in, the XXX action is more plentiful, but the clumsy direction and editing means that they are far from erotic.

At the end of the movie, Joe throws in a smattering of very gory pseudo-snuff footage for good measure, but this only serves to make the film feel even more disparate. The end result is neither a soft-core adventure, a hardcore porn movie or an all out gore-fest, but a disappointing (and often boring) half-assed mixture of all three.

See it so that you can talk knowledgeably about the genre to like-minded sickos, but don’t expect anything too amazing.

Malabimba Storyline

After the death of Andrea’s wife, Daniela who was the matriarch of once rich and influential aristocratic Caroli family, her nearly bankrupt family decides to hold a seance in their decrepit castle and contact her spirit. Unfortunately, they contact instead the malicious and possibly demonic spirit of their evil, hedonistic and decadent late cousin Lucrezia that, after assaulting and messing a bit with those present at the summoning, ends up possessing Andrea’s and dead woman’s virginal teenage daughter Bimba. Bimba suddenly becomes overtly sexual and starts acting out in a completely unhinged, aggressive and sexually provocative manner in front of her family and their guests, all while brutally insulting them. She tries to satisfy her confusing demonic urges with masturbation but quickly moves on to seducing those around her, starting with her deathly ill uncle Adolfo, who’s unable to stop her from performing fellatio on him which leads to his death during the incestuous act. Meanwhile, his buxom young wife and Bimba’s aunt Nais looks for sexual satisfaction in Giorgio, who hangs around the castle. However, unsatisfied with his s&m play, she seduces her brother-in-law Andrea instead. When Bimba discovers this, she tries to seduce her father herself but he rejects her in disgust and calls a psychiatrist who concludes that she is just acting out her grief over her mother’s death. Adolfo’s nurse, a beautiful nun Sofia becomes the next target of Bimba’s lust. Can Sofia save Bimba from the evil spirit or will Bimba’s lust consume Sofia as well?

A choice seamy chunk of Italian horror trash

Sweet and innocent teenager Bimba (a very bold and uninhibited portrayal by fetching slender brunette Katell Laenec) transforms into an evil, predatory, and sexually insatiable whore who proceeds to unsettle her wealthy family with all kinds of rude and improper behavior after a foul, vengeful, and lecherous spirit takes possession of her nubile body.

Director Andrea Bianchi, working from a gloriously lurid script by Piero Ragnoli, does an ace job of crafting a deliciously sleazy atmosphere of unbridled carnal desire and simmering perversion as well as delivers oodles of tasty gratuitous female nudity and scorching explicit copulation. Voluptuous blonde stunner Patrizia Webley vamps it up with sizzling saucy aplomb as shameless conniving slut Nais while the equally sumptuous Mariangela Giordano acquits herself well as selfless nun Sister Sofia. Moreover, it’s a total twisted treat to see a bunch of smug rich hypocrites being tormented and terrorized by an unruly supernatural force, with the definite amazing highlight occurring when Bimba causes her paralyzed uncle to succumb to a fatal heart attack as she performs fellatio on him (!). Solid sordid fun.

It’s Italian Exorcist rip-off time again.

Directed by Andrea Bianchi, the man who also gave us the hilariously trashy Italian zombie classic Burial Ground and the magnificently sleazy giallo Strip Nude for Your Killer, Malabimba is a fairly humdrum tale of possession, clearly inspired by The Exorcist but given a massive shot in the arm by the presence of some serious Euro-babeage and the inclusion of several very steamy scenes, some of which even enter XXX territory thanks to the use of hardcore insert shots.

Star of the film is the rather lovely Katell Laennec who plays sixteen year old Bimba Karoli, whose over-protective father Andrea keeps her away from the rest of the world in the family castle, which is also home to several other relatives. During a séance, intended to allow Andrea to contact his dead wife Daniela, Bimba becomes possessed by the spirit of evil ancestor Lucrezia and is transformed into a sexual deviant. Apprentice nun Sister Sofia (Mariangela Giordano) realises the truth, but can she save Bimba without falling victim to Lucrezia’s seductive power herself?

Lots of shots of luscious Laennec in the altogether indulging in all manner of perversion; Giordano whipping off her wimple and habit to get saucy; and busty blonde Patrizia Webley (as Bimba’s nympho aunt Nais) making a couple of the men in the castle very happy chappies indeed: despite the rather mediocre plot, Bianchi’s film has more than enough quality sleaze to ensure a good time, with the added explicit footage only making matters even more seedy.

In the film’s predictable finale (if you’ve seen The Exorcist, that is), Sofia sacrifices herself by becoming the vessel for Lucrezia’s corruptive spirit and promptly dives head-first off the castle’s ramparts before she is able to succumb to sin. What a waste of a randy nun!

Interestingly, a virtual remake of Malabimba-entitled La Bimba di Satana (Satan’s Baby Doll)- was directed the following year by Mario Bianchi (no relation of Andrea, as far as I can find out); the uncut version of that film also featured several equally explicit sex scenes but the torturously slow pacing and shoddy direction made it a far less entertaining affair than it’s predecessor.

Malabimba-The Malicious Whore

Sheltered 16 year old, Malabimba is possessed by the spirit of a deviant ancestor, after a séance unleashes her, who uses the girl as a tool for unmitigated lust, shocking the girl’s family and “nun protector” with suspicious sexually depraved behavior.

Little more than well made soft-core erotica with a slight bend towards horror. Superb camera work(..two cinematographers contributed)and an ideal setting(..a wonderfully atmospheric isolated castle monastery on a hill)provide this film with some class despite the trashy premise and characters.

The shocking subject matter is what sets it apart from what one might see in today’s modern cinematic porn. A teenage virginal innocent besieged by the spirit of a horny ancestor who was once a nymphomaniac. Malabimba attempts to seduce her own father, gives grandpa oral sex(..which, I guess, gets him so worked up he has a coronary!), successfully ravages her nun, Sister Sophia(Mariangela Giordano;the spirit had attempted to possess her at the opening), and often peeps on the sexual activities of her voracious slutty aunt, Nais(Patrizia Webley). Nais is married to Bimba’s uncle(Giuseppe Marrocco)but yearns for her father, Andrea(Enzo Fisichella). Nais, after repeated tries, is able to secure Andrea’s desire, and Bimba looks on, actually luring Sophia into voyeurism with her. And, easily the film’s most unpredictable sequence, has Bimba pulling up her dress, displaying her naked body for a dinner party of guests as her family stare in disbelief!

Director Andrea Bianchi is known as a director willing to push boundaries, and does so here. Katell Laennec, who has a more mature body than an expected 16 year old, still looks young enough for her teenage character’s wild antics to cold-cock an audience into silence and awe. Bianchi’s camera enjoys closing in on the crotches of both Webley and Laennec, both seemingly open and free with exposing themselves. Webley is often seen in lingerie, gallivanting her body for those she wishes to proposition. The film’s most erotic component is probably Bimba’s methodical seduction of Sister Sophia who is able to ward off the permeating desire to engage in lesbian pleasure, finally giving in at the end, ultimately allowing access for the evil spirit to invade her(..I’m not sure why the spirit would wish to leave the younger Bimba for Sophia, unless it was the devious idea of overtaking the body of a God-fearing nun). The Karoli family is an open wound for the viewer and we witness their moral decay.

NOT for the easily offended or those bothered by immoral acts of sexual gratification. Often labeled an EXORCIST rip-off, I think the film is it’s own beast, really only using a little bit of the Catholism..this is a possession movie exploring erotic territory, rather than Satanic horrors regarding unsettling demonic images.

It’s safe to say that you won’t find many films more distasteful, misanthropic and deliriously odd as Gerard Damiano’s puppet porno Let My Puppets Come. The erstwhile director of Deep Throat and other, more classy hardcore epics here delivers a side-swipe at, well… just about everything: film-making, pornography, sex, capitalism and the American dream, in the shape of the most degenerate puppet show you’ll ever see.

The film begins with Damiano himself at a hot dog stand, buying a dog and surprised at being joined by a small puppet who buys the same snack for himself. We then discover that this puppet is a gopher in an on-the-rocks business that owes money to a mysterious “Mr Big”. The gopher arrives back at the office to find the puppet suits in an uproar – they need to make a hefty sum of money quick, otherwise they’re for the chop. They decide to make a porno.

The gopher pitches a couple of ideas, and we see them enacted by puppets before us: one has a woman poked by her pet dog, the other a patient blown by a nurse. It is somewhat disconcerting to see puppets, with foam-made sexual organs, explicitly engaging in sexual intercourse, and it is in this queasy sight that the film’s peculiar ability to arouse unease arises: human sexuality is debased to mere puppetry, organs are no more than sown on (and on one occasion sliced off) appendages, volition is reduced to being moved around by some unseen person with their hand up your ass.

Soon the suits have recruited a relative of their eldest member, one Gepetto, as creative consultant on the movie; he arrives with his son Pinocchio – as soon as you see the boy’s nose you know where it’s going to end up. The filming begins, with a puppet leather man called Lash whipping the performers and instructing them with shouts and abuse. Musical numbers are filmed, including a jaw-dropping tribute to the All American Dream Girl sung by a prick and danced by a a torso with chicken legs, a c**t with jaws and breasts but no head. Rarely can the idea of the American dream have been so ridiculed, cheapened and disgraced.

There follows an interlude in which one of the backers goes to a bar to get away from sexual organs, but find a (real) woman dancing lewdly. He rescues her from a drunk and finds himself back at her place. She wants to reward him, so he takes her underwear. What this little piece of random insanity might portend is anyone’s guess, but the interaction between the live humans and the puppets is unnerving.

Back on set, the filmmakers need more in the film, so they make some sexualised adverts. These feature real porn actresses with puppets, and conjure up an image of the commercial world which is beyond cheap and tawdry, but which resolutely drags the Capitalist idea that “sex sells” through the dirtiest of dirt. One example of the jingles, this for a vaginal deodorant: “Use Miss Sweet Fish every day / Keeps Miss Skanky c**t away”.

Mr Big arrives at the set, played by a human dwarf, threatening to kill them all because they haven’t got his money. He is placated by a blow-job from a puppet. Then the cops arrive and arrest them all for making an indecent film, but they get off because a “pansy judge” has found the film to have “social redeeming value.” “Social redeeming value my ass,” mutters the cop, “f**cking is f**cking.” The film goes on to win the best picture Oscar – presented for some reason by Damiano – and Variety is abuzz with the gossip about the puppet porno and its makers.

All of this amounts to a really freakish assault, in the end, on human dignity. We’re all merely puppets, in our careers and sex lives, moved around by the demands of making money. Lord knows whether Damiano meant this as the desperate satire it now seems – it certainly is a porno comedy which leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth.

Incredibly nutty 70’s puppet hardcore musical comedy marvel

The goofball executives at an advertising company in New York City are forced to make a porn movie in order to raise the 500 large that they owe to a Mafia boss (robustly played by Luis De Jesus; Ralphus in Bloodsucking Freaks) after their latest business venture proves to be a huge flop.

Writer/director Gerard Damiano goes whole hog with the gloriously gonzo premise: This crazy flick not only pokes merry fun at the adult film business and boasts a hysterically funny sense of outrageous ribald humor, but also offers puppet fellatio, copulation, and ejaculation, full frontal puppet nudity, a cheerfully depraved detour into bestiality with a randy puppet dog doing just what you think with his female owner, and puppets conducting themselves in an altogether rude, crude, and improper manner throughout. Pretty brunette Penny Nicholls contributes a memorably sexy’n’saucy turn as a naughty gal who wants to be spanked, Damiano can be glimpsed buying a hot dog, and “Screw” magazine publisher Al Goldstein finds himself on the receiving end of some puppet oral sex. The songs are quite catchy and bouncy, too. An absolute hoot!

Gerard Damiano’s Puppet porno Let My Puppets Come stops short of graphic human/puppet intercourse, but that doesn’t mean that the film is suitable for the kids. Far from it… Damiano’s movie goes much further than either Peter Jackson’s outrageous Meet The Feebles (1989) or Brian Henson’s more recent puppet crapfest The Happytime Murders (2018) by delivering all manner of XXX puppet-on-puppet action, including oral sex and puppet ejaculate (NOT silly string!). And with felt performers, Damiano is able to let his twisted mind run really wild, even depicting puppet bestiality!

The film is definitely something of a curiosity, unlikely to appeal to the dirty mac brigade, but not funny enough and a little too risqué to give it broader appeal. To make the movie even more niche, Damiano features several song and dance routines (some of which are actually pretty good), making this a puppet-porno-musical!

The film’s totally bizarre mix of sex, music (some of which is by future two-time Oscar nominee Alan Silvestri) and grape throwing (watch it to see what I mean) makes it essential viewing for fans of cult oddities. Giving the film even more cult appeal is a role for Bloodsucking Freaks’ Ralphus, dwarf performer Luis De Jesus (who started his screen career in a porn loop called The Anal Dwarf, but who worked his way up to play an ewok in Return of the Jedi).

Well, u gotta give the lil bastard credit. He’s got a novel way to get his nuts off.

I saw this for the first time recently after getting enticed by the synopsis. Fast forwarded the hardcore sex scenes.

It is a dark, disturbing n gritty crime thriller if u forward the hardcore scenes.

The film has sufficient tension, a car chase n it is darkly comical.

Hard-edged Hardcore

Though he tries to hide behind the pseudonym F.C. Perl, director R.L. Frost can’t disguise his style in the nasty “A Climax of Blue Power.” This adult film follows a security guard (Jason Carns) who’s got some serious hang-ups about women. In his free time he masquerades as a cop–even going as far as converting his Ford LTD into a black & white police car–and “busts” prostitutes, offering to let them go in return for sexual favors and/or fulfilling his sadistic whims (the first victim is ordered to “crawl around in the mud like a dog!”). While bumming around the beach one day, Carns hears gunshots at a nearby house. Peeking through the windows, he witnesses a woman (Angela Carnon) murder her husband. Carnon quickly becomes the focal point of Carns’ obsessions. Even a three-way in a massage parlor or watching a porno movie at home can’t get her out of his mind. When he learns the murder is written off as a suicide, Carns decides the murderess shouldn’t get off that easy.

“A Climax of Blue Power” is hostile and gritty, and without a trace of political correctness. It also plays like a real movie, with a plot, characters and believable acting. There’s even a car chase. Carns is effective in his role, his physical attractiveness (he sort of looks like a young Kurt Russell) never overshadowing his creepiness. Carnon, who’s made numerous softcore movies (“Drop-Out Wife,” “Booby Trap”), is another standout. (Incidentally, Carnon’s scenes in this movie all appear to be softcore; an obvious stand-in was used for the hardcore close-ups). Also appearing are Frost’s frequent producing partner Wes Bishop, as a detective, and Uschi Digard in a non-sexual and, surprisingly, fully-clothed cameo.

Director Frost made some of the most stylish roughies of the 1960s (“The Pick-Up,” “The Defilers,” “Hot Spur”). “A Climax of Blue Power” essentially uses Frost’s roughie template and repackages it in a hard-X format. Though the movie has a few shaky production and story issues at its beginning (like why does a hooker keep flagging down johns in front of a police car and an unconvincing day-for-night scene), this is a must for fans of Frost’s work, as well as aficionados of rough sex.

A very strong and disturbing 70’s porno roughie gem

Short, blandly handsome Jason Carns, a seemingly ordinary and unassuming nice guy next door type gone horribly bug crazy wrong, gives a frightfully plausible performance as lowly security guard Eddie, who gets his twisted deviant carnal kicks by pretending to be a Los Angeles police officer who joyfully browbeats, manhandles and elicits unpaid sexual favors from street hookers while wearing a fuzzball uniform and driving around in a phony cop car. One day Carns witnesses a housewife (bewitching brunette Linda Harris) in the act of killing her no-account husband; this in turn causes the already seriously nuts Carns to go further around the bend and succumb to depraved delusional fantasies in which he has his sadistic way with Harris.

From its shocking opening sequence depicting Carns cruelly taking advantage of a frightened prostitute to the electrifying final face-off between Carns and Harris (complete with jolting rape and an exciting last reel automobile chase), this harsh, aggressive, fiercely confrontational psycho sickie roughie porno from the late, great Lee Frost profoundly scares and unsettles, spewing forth 84 harrowing, brutality-ridden minutes that are jam-packed with plenty of nerve-jangling full-throttle dementia and perversity. Frost’s blunt, no-nonsense direction, the eerie, ethereal score set to a pounding pseudo-disco beat (said score also boasts a haunting recurrent whistled theme), the flat, unpolished cinematography which adroitly captures the plain, plodding rhythms of mundane everyday life, the authentically lurid L.A. locations, several jarring visualizations of Carns’ savage power trip fantasies, the mean, hard-hitting dialogue, the frequently quite startling all-out nasty rough sex tableaux, and the unusually strong and credible acting from a mostly no-name cast (the sole familiar faces are skinflick starlets Rene Bond and Uschi Digard as massage parlor girls, plus longtime Frost collaborator Wes Bishop as a detective and legendary exploitation producer Bob Cresse as the massage parlor owner) are all uniformly tops. Moreover, the film’s hard, gritty, almost unbearably razor-sharp edge digs deep into the darkest, most base and disturbing wacko recesses of the human psyche. Hell, this unbeatable outing even possesses a commendably daring and provocative subtext: The flagrant abuse and mistreatment of power and authority, with especially revealing insights on role playing and how men use sex as a means to an end for totally controlling and dominating over women.

This long-lost masterpiece of gay erotic cinema centers on a handsome young stud who rides his motorcycle through a myriad of sexual encounters, from a soccer game’s locker room to a dreamy and unsettling orgy where the film reaches its melancholic peak. Newly scanned in 2K from the original camera negative and directed with absolute grace by the mysterious Dietrich de Velsa (aka Francis Savel / Frantz Salieri): this former painter was also the owner and artistic director of one of the first transvestites’ cabaret of Paris, La Grande Eugène. Years later, he collaborated with Joseph Losey on Mr. Klein (1976) and Don Giovanni (1979). EQUATION TO AN UNKNOWN is his only film and stands without a doubt as a masterpiece and the best French gay adult film ever made.

Recently unearthed and being given a mini-roadshow in tandem with Yann Gonzalez’s gay slasher pastiche UN COUTEAU DANS LE COEUR (vexingly rendered into pidgin English as KNIFE+HEART), EQUATION TO AN UNKNOWN is an essentially lost French hardcore film from the early ’80s, perhaps not quite the major discovery it’s being touted as, but nevertheless worth a look for connoisseurs of the genre.

The loose plot follows a couple roommates/lovers and their intimacy issues, with the principle protagonist (Gianfranco Longhi, credited appropriately enough as “La figure principale”) engaging in an increasing number of trysts with random lovers. The wild opening finds the members of a French football club all playing grab-ass in the showers before a few succumb to more carnal urges in private. As the film progresses, Longhi spends a lot of time cruising around Paris on his motorcycle, picking up random guys along the way. When the prodigal lover finally returns to his beau back home, the two attempt to reconcile their feelings monogamously, though Longhi soon slips into reverie and fantasizes himself joined by his litany of paramours from throughout the film. “I wish I could love only you,” he whispers, with his boyfriend seeming to accept his lover’s hypersexuality as the price of admission for their relationship. The end finds them cruising around the streets of Paris on a bike as the director reads out the credits in voiceover, a la CONTEMPT.

Apparently the sole directorial credit of Francis Savel (operating under the rather florid pseudonym of Dietrich de Velsa), EQUATION heralds a decent pornographic talent, with Savel and DP Francois About evincing a keen eye for composition and lighting that results in some beautiful tableaux. The cast is uniformly gorgeous, and may have viewers wishing they could book a ticket back to Paris in 1980. Unfortunately, many of them are also pretty similar looking, and it wasn’t until the end that I even realized I was watching a linear narrative – up until then, I’d thought the film was following more of a LA RONDE-style narrative pass-off structure adopted by so many low-budget American sex flicks.

EQUATION definitely has something to say about fidelity in gay romance, and its argument in favor of free love is appreciated (if in retrospect tragically naive in light of the oncoming AIDS crisis); however, it does end up inadvertently subverting its central thesis merely by virtue of its length – at 94 minutes, the film is a marathon, and would probably have played better with a few of its lesser escapades cut for time. Nevertheless, it’s got a lot more going on stylistically and intellectually than the majority of US productions from the time, and is well worth a look for porn connoisseurs. Cap that off with a barn-burner of a closing orgy and one of the best male masturbation scenes ever committed to film, and you have a movies whose reemergence from obscurity is welcome and most appreciated.

My eyeballs got dirty

My eyeballs got dirty just watching this movie. There was a good movie about the famous dancer Gypsy Rose Lee some years ago (Gypsy 1962), but this is nothing like that. I would not call this a ‘good movie’ , and yet it is worth a watch for the curiouse. The main point of interest here is the cultural differences. The way that the baby is used in the movie almost makes it a horror movie. At first I thought that the baby was replaced with a doll when the actors started to move around violently. I thought that the switch was so smoothly done that I could not even catch it being done. But then I realised that they actually did not bother to swap the baby for a doll, they just started whipping the actual baby around like a rag doll and carried on. His head actually changed colour a few times and I was surprised that it did not pop off. Incredible. Not one of the characters in this movie had any redeeming qualities. The ending was absurd, but if it was all intended as a parody of humanities folly – which I do not give it credit for attempting – then you could see the entire thing as comedy. I simply found it ugly. But as a converstaion subject for film fans, it cerrtainly does the job.
