Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell Movie Reviews

A rather lukewarm foray into the “Tremors” franchise…

Well, you know what you are getting yourself into when you sit down to watch this kind of movie. Especially since the “Tremors” franchise doesn’t seem to lay down to die. The recent movies haven’t been outstanding and “Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell” is no different.

This is an enjoyable enough movie for what it is, which is mediocre entertainment.

Michael Gross revisits the role of Burt Gummer, and he alone well and the worms of course are the sole instrument from the original movie that keeps this franchise afloat. And believe you me, they are boiling soup on a very weak broth by now.

The special effects and the creature effects are good, though and they definitely make the movie more watchable. As for the story, well let’s just say that this movie offers nothing that haven’t already been seen in the franchise, except for it being set in a colder climate.

If you enjoy the “Tremors” movie, then you will enjoy this movie. But if you are new to the franchise, I would strongly recommend that you start with the first movie. Yeah, the one with Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon.

franchise home

Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) is now running the store in Perfection. US Treasury Special Agent Dalkwed has come to seize his property for overdue taxes. His son Travis B. Welker (Jamie Kennedy) is also back. An international team finds a Graboid in the Canadian arctic. They are being attacked and they call up Burt. It’s Val McKee’s daughter, Valerie McKee.

Global warming ruined this and the Midichlorians don’t help. Burt is back and he is forced to keep his new sidekick Jamie Kennedy. I still don’t see any point to Kennedy. He doesn’t add any comedy and that’s what one expects from him. He’s a real dud. This starts with a new location with the snowy north but soon it’s just another dirt floor situation. I guess all the snow melted from the time they called and the time Burt arrives. It’s all the same and not that good. The Graboid bug leads to something gross and not that fun. It’s a TV B-movie. I guess the franchise is comfortably at home.

Fit as a butcher’s dog.

Due to global warming our desert creatures make it to Boite Canyon, Arctic, “a 1,000 miles north of no where”. (Filmed in Cape Town, South Africa.) Crusty Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) hero of previous films and conspiracy theory expert is called to the rescue. He takes along his son (Jamie Kennedy ) to learn the ways of killing the creatures and to meet chicks.

Good characters, good dialogue. Plenty of redneck shoot-em’ up silly fun.

Guide: No F-words, sex. Michael Gross shows his butt in several ways.
