Reno 911: It’s a Terrible Mess

Having been a huge fan of the show in its original run, I was really looking forward to this. I made it about 50 minutes in without so much as cracking a smile before I called it quits. Robert Ben Garant’s absence from the screen was disappointing enough, but his absence from the writing credits makes me think he was the biggest talent behind the scripts, too.

The hilarious interpersonal dynamics between the deputies and lieutenant Dangle that made the original show so endearing are entirely absent here (some of which may be at least partially a consequence of the expanded cast), and instead we’re treated to bit after zany bit with Dangle and the gang just there to provide bland commentary on the already bland gags.
