Slugterra: Ghoul from Beyond Movie Reviews
Generic animation and story for younger audiences
“Slugterra: Ghoul from Beyond” is a Canadian animated film that comes close to the magical 45-minute mark, but as it stays slightly under, it can still be considered a short film I guess. Language is mostly English, sometimes French and as the title already gives away, animated snails play a big role in here. But story-wise, it is not harmless fun, but even resembles good vs. evil fight sequences à la Dragonball and I must say I wasn’t too impressed. The character animation was relatively underwhelming too in my opinion. I see there are some other Slugterra films out there and also a relatively long-running series too. Sadly, this one here did not get me curious about any of these and I truly hope these are better. The voice acting is tolerable and it’s not a problem I don’t know any of the performers. Voice actors are frequently unknown and the bunch here doesn’t make a difference, but it’s fine as they may very well be prolific and experienced nonetheless. Anyway, back to this one here: The generic plot and story maybe only make it worth seeing for younger audiences in case this is what you want your children to grow up with. I was really missing love to detail and depth here and with so many writers and directors in charge apparently, this is especially disappointing. Even for an animation lover like myself, this is hard to appreciate. I give it a thumbs-down.
