Banshee Chapter Movie Reviews

Extremely Underrated 3d gem!! Ted Levine is brilliant!!

Another movie people get wrong….. VERY WRONG!! Its easily at least a 7, I usually dont like found FOOTAGE type films but this one used it to scare the crap out of you. This is the definition of less is more …less is far better, just the right amount of jump scares ( which i actually like) and not the cheap type these really work. Ted Levine is always great but hes brilliant here, so is the lead actress. I have no idea what movie other people watched but this 1 is a great horror movie. Ignore the haters, also was shot in 3d so I LOVED that as well.

Uncovering a sinister plot

Intrepid and determined young journalist Anne Roland (an excellent portrayal by Katie Winter) gets caught up in the dangerous world of top secret government chemical research and alternate realities after she investigates the disappearance of her college friend James Hirsch (likeable Michael McMillian).

Writer/director Blair Erickson relates the compelling and complex story at a constant pace, expertly crafts an eerie, edgy, and unsettling atmosphere with a strong underlying sense of pure dread, presents several genuinely creepy moments, and offers an inspired and interesting blend of found footage and government conspiracy elements along with a tasty added dash of Lovecraftian horror. Ted Levine contributes a very funny and lively performance as wigged-out reclusive Hunter S. Thompson-like gonzo writer Thomas Blackburn, who becomes Roland’s reluctant partner. The surprise bummer ending packs a startling punch. A really cool and creative little film.

All over the place, but not without merit

BANSHEE CHAPTER is a weird little horror flick that offers something different to the usual ghost or stalk-‘n’-slash thrills. The plot incorporates government mind-testing, a ‘ghost’ radio station, government conspiracy, an anarchist writer modelled on Hunter S. Thompson, and aliens, alongside some traditional ghostly spirits designed to pop up in scare scenes and spook the viewer.

It’s not really all that successful because the plot ingredients are all over the place. At times this strives to be a found footage flick and at other times it just plays out normally. I did like Katia Winter’s protagonist, who’s more intelligent and less of a screamer than the usual horror heroine, but the real stand-out performance here comes from an unrecognisable Ted Levine (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS) as the boozy, washed-up writer who gets drawn into a sinister conspiracy. BANSHEE CHAPTER is a weird little film all right and fans looking for something different might just find something to tempt them here as the creepy atmosphere is spot on.
