The Way He Looks Movie Reviews

A Sensitive Portrayal…

… of discovery as a blind adolescent boy falls in love for the first time and embarks on his journey to manhood with the arrival of Gabriel at his school, much to the annoyance of his best friend Giovana.

It let’s people know that whilst a person’s disability is challenging, they are entitled to love the same sex!

I’m so impressed that this film is very different to the other romantic gay movies I’ve seen as it brings awareness of having a disability. Ghilherme Lobo suit the role as playing a blind person. His character is lucky to have Gabriel as his boyfriend and his wimpy best friend Giovanna by his side.

I was cheesed off with those fellas bullying him just because he is blind and has a noisy tying machine in the classroom. No wonder his parents were overprotective of him planning to do studying abroad because pretty much it’s a dangerous world out there lemme tell you! I hope himself and Gabriel live together, get married and have kiddies. They are such a totally cute couple!

I wish this movie was longer seriously!

An nice little triumph for optimism…

This is a lovely, gentle film about a blind lad (Ghilherme Lobo). At school he meets new student (Fabio Audi) who helps him on his quest for independence from his loving, but overbearingly controlling parents; from his best girlfriend “Giovana” (Tess Amorim) and from the practical limitations of his visual impairment. Slowly, they fall for each other and this becomes a story about identity and confidence. The plot isn’t going to surprise you; but the performances are strong and convincing and the dialogue flows well too. There’s a good bit of Belle & Sebastian music thrown in, too.
